Rhodes会長メッセージ:

Dear Professor, Hosaka and Members of the JSCSC,

It is with deep regret to hear of the passing of the Honorable, Professor Shuntaro Ito on 20, September 2023.

It must be said that the Honorable Professor, Shuntaro Ito was the foundation and architect of a bridge between the ISCSC and the JSCSC. Professor Ito was an early member in the young days of the ISCSC and served as President of the ISCSC from 1995 to 1998. He served on the Comparative Civilizations Review Journal (CCR) Editorial Advisory Board from 1997-2000. His paper titled A Framework for the Comparative Study of Civilizations was published in the Spring 1997 edition of CCR. Subsequently, his following works were published: What is Civilization: A New Approach in Spring 1998 and On Cross Civilization Spheres, CCR Fall of 1998.Professor Ito was a Corresponding Editor of the CCR from 1998 to 2000.

Professor Ito was named ISCSC Praeses Honoris Causa Per Totam Vitam (Honorary President for Entire Life) in the Fall of 2000. Professor Ito will always be honored by this title which will forever remain in place in recognition of his endless qualities of scholarship, diplomacy, and vision towards a peaceful world.

Largely due to his efforts and vision, the JSCSC and ISCSC continue to have an even stronger sister-partnership. We owe Professor Ito an endless debt of gratitude and honor for his lifetime contributions.

With deepest sympathies on behalf of the ISCSC,

Lynn Rhodes

Andregg副会長メッセージ:

Dear Prof. Hosaka and other JSCSC members,

We are sad here in America to read about the passing of our esteemed former President (and since honorary president) Shuntaro Ito.  He built a great academic society in the JSCSC.  He was a window on Asian scholarship for all of us, and an inspiration to me particularly as I met other giants now departed, like Juri Abe, and many others through Professor Ito.  He will be sorely missed.

Michael Andregg,

Vice President, ISCSC 2023
